The Kami cried out with every step the soldiers of the foreign nation took to harm the land and the people living within it, and the only one who could hear them had barely turned six the year before. Frightened and overwhelmed, and feeling the physical effect of the land suffering, Sumire became a different child - no longer afforded freedom or unfettered joy, they became lethargic and quiet.Sumire withrdrew from others in order to focus on bettering the land and they did their utmost to continue carrying out their duty - prayer, dance, prayer, dance, beg for freedom, prayer. Nothing worked. Nothing changed. With further Garlean intervention, religious rites, services or performances Sumire was previously performing or training to perform had to be done in secret or not at all. There would be no more newborn babies held while her small hand blessed their health - there would be no more merriment.There would be nothing, nothing at all, but the tears of the people around her as more and more of their people disappeared, or lay bleeding. Or became part of the land, their souls squirming for weeks, for months, trapped there. With her.

_ born in hingashi to a family of varied origin - a yanxian father and a hingan mother. they returned to yanxia shortly after the strange circumstances of her birth and a dream had by her father - urged on to return to his homeland and raise the girl there.with the young couple came both grandparents and a handful of sumire's fathers family members who came to hingashi originally.

sumire was raised with both cultures as much as could be afforded - the move took the last of their savings, which were already meager. a life was formed on the docks where their father could continue his work as a fisherman to feed their family.taught the ways of a shrine maiden and a devout priestess, her grandmother saw to her education wherever they could achieve it. instruments, prayers, hours spent with ink and brush. to be a servant of the kami became sumire's only true role in life, though her parents did their best to alleviate such a burden with their affection.

five years old when garlemald makes its move into doma proper. though young, the role they are born into is put into play with this invasion.what little time they already had for playing and being a child is gone completely - confined to the small village she was raised in, her parents keep her mostly indoors in fear of what might happen to her. people in yanxia begin dying or being shipped off to fight for garlemald.when she is ten, her village is destroyed - her parents gone in the night, leaving behind only the heelmarks of dragged feet in the dirt and a turned-over home half-aflame.
